The "MSU" Purpose

Melanin Sisters United’s inception began in September 2018. It was a vision by founder Pastor Tina Booker to create an event where the “EVERYDAY woman of color” can be acknowledged and revered for one special night. It was the collective of an amazing group of women that have volunteered their gifts and talents that gave birth to the experience known as
the “Melanin Magic Gala”. Our mission is to each year give the public the opportunity to submit the name and short
biography of a woman of color they deem worthy to be honored. These women are just that - the “everyday” woman. A mother who works tirelessly for her family, an entrepreneur, a teacher or doctor. The list is endless. Upon the submission deadline, the collective casts their votes and the honorees are notified hence the beginning of the Gala planning process.

Every woman that attends the event receives a “thank you for being you” token of appreciation.
All of the honorees are bestowed with a plaque and acknowledgements from the collective and
others for their achievements, leadership and community service.
Our purpose is to empower and motivate our melanin sisters. We strive to inspire the young
black and brown girls to embrace their heritage and ethnicity with beauty, style and uniqueness.
Proceeds from our gala and fundraising are donated to various charitable organizations and to
offer modest student scholarships.
Our ultimate goal for MELANIN SISTERS UNITED is to uplift, celebrate and recognize the
strength of women of color.
